Our role
The Climate Ambassadors programme supports the development of climate action plans in education settings across England by:
- Recruiting and training volunteers with sustainability and climate expertise to provide their time to education settings for free
- Providing training and support, including safeguarding checks and the connections to education settings, to allow volunteers to maximise their time helping education settings
- Working with education settings to help them quickly find the support they need for effective climate action planning from Climate Ambassadors and from the National Education Nature Park, Sustainability Support for Education, Let’s Go Zero Climate Action Advisors and other organisations
- Helping and supporting national and regional networks of education settings to work together on climate action planning.

‘Sister’ projects
Our sister projects complement the support offered to education settings.
Sustainability Support for Education

Sustainability Support for Education is a digital support hub that will make it easier for education settings to start or progress their environmental sustainability journey. It will help all education settings in England determine climate change and sustainability priorities that are meaningful to their unique context, enabling each to develop an evidence-based climate action plan.
Commissioned by the Department for Education, the online hub, intended to launch in May 2024, will help each education setting:
- determine priorities based on what’s already been done, the time and resources available, and what will make the biggest impact
- navigate to trusted information and guidance that directly supports delivering on the identified priorities
- understand the cost and impact of different types of climate action, so achievable decisions can be made based on each setting’s unique circumstances
In time, this free service will also make available data from DfE systems on factors such as energy usage, emissions, waste, travel, and climate and flooding risk. This data will help each setting to perform a simple self-assessment of their situation and provide evidence to inform their climate action plan.
National Education Nature Park and Climate Action Awards
The National Education Nature Park and Climate Action Awards empower young people to make a positive difference to both their own and nature’s future. Commissioned by the Department for Education, these free programmes provide educators with the resources, support and guidance needed to put nature at the heart of education.
Embedding nature across everyday teaching and learning will give every young person in England the opportunity to develop a meaningful connection to nature, contribute to nature recovery across the country and build resilience for a changing world.
